It costs more money for everything from fuel, to training volunteers and heating our offices.”

Every week, Transport 17 supports more than 150 passenger trips and currently transports people to 12 weekly lunch and social clubs, with a further two clubs running on a fortnightly basis.

As a result, this can reduce isolation, have a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing, and improve their quality of life.

They collect passengers directly from their homes, take them to their club or group, and bring them safely home once the session has finished.

The door-to-door service removes barriers to getting out, helping people maintain friendships, routines and a sense of belonging.

All vehicles are fully accessible, with tail lifts to accommodate wheelchair users and walkers, so everyone can travel comfortably.

Partner organisations provide T17 with a list of members who need transport, and they charge a small fee based on time and distance.

The service relies on funding, donations and the work of volunteers to keep operating and serving the local community.

A JustGiving page has been set up and Jack Martin and Jack Lucas ran the Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday 29 March 2026 to raise money for Transport 17.

https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sheffieldhalfmarathon-transport17?utm_medium=CA&utm_source=CL

A community-based transport service in South West Sheffield is looking to raise £90,000 for a new minibus which provides vital support for the elderly.
