Sheffield Interrail users have been victim to the leakage of their personal information via the railway company Eurail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eurail confirmed in early March that a hacker had been offering said stolen data on the dark web and also proceeded to publish a sample data sheet on their telegram channel.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a letter sent by Eurail, the company stated that \u201cthe following categories of your personal data were accessed and copied from our customer database: First name, Last name, Date of Birth, Gender, Passport number (including country of issuance and expiration date), Email address, Phone number, Physical address information, and Country of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charlotte Cawkill, aged 19, said \u201cThis is unacceptable and I am now afraid I may not be able to travel and participate in my summer plans accordingly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Miss Cawkill added: \u201cI am now worried about transferring money in and out of my bank account due to the need for more security.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another frustrated customer, Sam Candy, aged 18, said \u201dI am overly worried that my details could be sold on the black web.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Candy continued: \u201cIt\u2019s just going to be overly stressful when applying for new bank cards, applying for jobs, and booking flights,\u201d due to the increased level of security he will have to bypass.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This Eurail data leak has affected hundreds of thousands of\u00a0Interrail pass users.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In January the railway company initially confirmed a security breach, and have now provided the number of individuals affected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hacker claimed they stole personal information from millions of Interrail and Eurail users and that their negotiations with the company had failed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, almost a whopping 309,000 people may have been affected by the data breach, having booked an Interrail pass or Eurail pass through company\u2019s associated distribution firms or direct channels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eurail has also tried reassuring customers by stating that they have secured their systems and are continuing to work with external cybersecurity specialists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company furthered this when saying \u201cWe also remain in contact with the relevant authorities,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
