More strikes have been scheduled for The University of Sheffield staff, leaving final year students feeling \u2018robbed\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheffield UCU has called for more striking, due to take place 7-8th May and 11-14th May, a total of six days of strike action, to protest the scale and pace of cuts to staffing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jake Romer, a Masters student at the University of Sheffield, said: \u201cThey cancelled lectures last term and told us to do the coursework on information they hadn\u2019t provided, while stressing the fact that it was required to get top marks\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The University management has claimed that continuing their plans for huge cuts in staffing costs is for financial reasons, but UCU Sheffield have found their audited financial statements do not provide a clear case to do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mary Vincent, Vice President of Education at the University, sent an email to all students, which said: \u201cWe recognise that many of you are now very close to your final assessments and this news may be particularly worrying, especially for those of you who experienced disruption previously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would like to assure you that schools have been working hard to minimise any potential impact on your learning, teaching, and assessment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will continue to support you in any way we can, and keep you informed and updated as the situation develops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jess Cloete, a final year student, said: “It is actually really difficult trying to do a dissertation in the middle of it all. I couldn’t get in touch with my diss supervisor last time because she was on strike for weeks.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Union have also asked members to partake in action short of strike, which includes: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not covering for absent colleagues; not rescheduling lectures or classes cancelled as a result of strike action; not sharing materials relating to lectures or classes cancelled as a result of strike action; not undertaking any voluntary activities; not undertaking duties which are not commensurate with the grade of the post; and not using personal devices to conduct work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UCU hope to resolve their dispute with management on 1st May, hoping the industrial action will \u2018further incentivise management to make our members a meaningful offer\u2019. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
