{"id":61099,"date":"2026-05-06T13:32:47","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T13:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=61099"},"modified":"2026-05-06T13:32:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T13:32:50","slug":"north-vs-south-rugby-charity-match-the-debate-to-be-settled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/05\/06\/north-vs-south-rugby-charity-match-the-debate-to-be-settled\/","title":{"rendered":"North vs South Rugby Charity Match; the debate to be settled"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>University of Sheffield rugby teams are joining forces to raise money for charity in a North vs South showdown.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are being divided into teams depending on which part of the country they are from and will be raising money for LooseHeadz and the OddBalls Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teams that are taking part include Sheffield Medics Rugby Union Football Club (SMRUFC), Sheffield University Rugby Football Club (SURFC) and Sheffield University Women\u2019s Rugby Football Club (SUWRFC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event includes both a male and female fixture, the women&#8217;s including a 10 a side, and the men\u2019s being a traditional 15 a side.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LooseHeadz, founded in 2017, has the mission statement to \u201cplace a mental health lead at every rugby club in the world,\u201d and provides free resources to help players tackle mental health challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OddBalls Foundation, founded in 2015, says it is \u201cproud to be the UK\u2019s leading charity raising awareness of Testicular Cancer &#8211; the most common cancer affecting men aged 15-49 in the UK.\u201d It raises funds through selling vibrant clothing and collecting donations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ziva Myles, 18, a journalism student at the university, is playing number three for the North side in the Women\u2019s fixture and represents SUWRFC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;I am really excited to play in the charity match as I think it\u2019ll be great fun playing against my friends and teammates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Both charities mean a lot to me and my family so I\u2019m looking forward to raising money for two very good causes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tristan Andrew Jack Hall, 18, playing number three for the South side in the Men\u2019s fixture, representing SURFC, said he was &#8220;ecstatic to be raising money for both charities as they are such incredible causes&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Men\u2019s mental health especially within rugby can be overlooked so raising money for LooseHeadz is very fulfilling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charity match is being hosted by the University of Sheffield Medics Rugby team and is set to take place on 23 May at the Sheffield Tigers ground in Hathersage Road, Dore S17 3AB.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each ticket is \u00a34 and proceeds go to both LooseHeadz and the OddBall Foundation.\u00a0They can be bought online at <a href=\"https:\/\/pay.collctiv.com\/tickets-nvs-6426?utm_source=ig&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=link_in_bio\">https:\/\/pay.collctiv.com\/tickets-nvs-6426?utm_source=ig&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=link_in_bio<\/a> .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>University of Sheffield rugby teams are joining forces to raise money for charity in a North vs South showdown.&nbsp; Students are being divided into teams depending on which part of the country they are from and will be raising money for LooseHeadz and the OddBalls Foundation.
