A Sheffield pub is set to host its third annual fundraising event for a cancer charity later this month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event at the Banner Cross on Ecclesall Road is taking place on Friday 15 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Breast Cancer Now have been working to enable change for over 50 years, racking up achievements such as founding the first breast cancer research centre, setting up the first dedicated helpline, and helped discover the BRCA2 gene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Banner Cross will host an evening full of fun, promising a night full of unbelievable prizes, a blind auction, and games such as \u2018Guess the name of the teddy\u2019 and interactive horse racing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The money raised will go straight to Breast Cancer Now to use how they see fit, whether that\u2019s for research, equipment or staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sophie Turner, general manager of The Banner Cross who has lived in Sheffield for 13 years, said: \u201cWe know a few people who have been affected by breast cancer but this event was to help a couple we know who are doing 12 events in 12 months to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy partner at The Broomhill Tavern did a race night last year for Breast Cancer Now and then I\u2019m doing one this year to help them too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Banner Cross has been commended for its community and atmosphere in its reviews, with the venue winning Sports Pub of the Year in multiple local competitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Miss Turner, speaking about their schedule ahead, said: \u201cI think it\u2019s important for pubs to do events like this because it brings the community together. It reminds them of things that aren\u2019t so great in the world but while having an amazing time in their local pub.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added: \u201cIt brings people together all for a good cause and there is nothing better than that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with roughly 55,000-58,000 women and 400 men diagnosed annually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
