Locals have voiced their outrage over the social media posts made by Reform UK councillor Nathaniel Menday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Menday was elected to represent the Woodhouse area on Sheffield City Council in last week’s local elections. He received 1,987 votes; winning by more than 1,000 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is now currently suspended by Reform UK after his posts on X resurfaced, where he posted photos of a nazi flag and an image of Hitler\u2019s Mein Kampf. In a recent statement a spokesperson for Reform UK said Menday had been suspended for not declaring these social media posts, which has now brought the party into \u2018disrepute\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Woodhouse residents are shocked that the person they elected could\u2019ve made such comments. Caroline Forsyth, 45, and a resident of the Woodhouse area said: \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely abhorrent. It’s shocking that kind of behaviour and beliefs still exist today let alone projected by someone elected to represent the people. Whilst I didn\u2019t vote for him I can confidently say the people in this area support those kinds of views, despite voting for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cReform definitely should\u2019ve done more due diligence before allowing someone like that to represent them. It is a complete blunder on their part to allow him to run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI hope he does have his seat officially removed by the city council, I think it would be pretty scandalous if they didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Woodhouse area is part of 13 constituencies to vote in a Reform UK councillor; 12 of which were voted in as of the most recent local election, the biggest increase out of any political party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, other Sheffield City Council members have called for Menday\u2019s official resignation. Minesh Parekh, a member of the Labour party and councillor for the Crookes and Crosspool area, in a statement issued to the Audit and Standards Committee, said: \u201cI have been deeply concerned by the recent revelations relating to Nathaniel Menday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCouncillor Menday\u2019s use of white supremacist symbols and attacks on Jewish people fall far short of the standards expected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the backlash, there has not yet been any announcement from Sheffield City Council on whether Menday will have his council seat removed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
