Studios opened their doors on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May, before a second weekend on 9th and 10th of May.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event has become widely recognised as the largest open studio and gallery event outside of London, attracting thousands of visitors each year and further establishing Sheffield as one of the UK\u2019s leading creative cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival celebrated all types of artists, from painters to ceramicists. Karen Sherwood, a painter with a studio in the Broomhill area said: \u201cThe event is a great opportunity for artists to showcase their work to a wider audience, other than social media nothing compares to the amount of eyes this event attracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt also provides an opportunity for residents to see what\u2019s being created in their city. Never in one day have I met so many like minded people passionate about art, it was truly wonderful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think it is a pretty unique day for everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is now run by a committee led by husband-and-wife artist duo Lizzy and Krishna Alageswaran, who also participate in the event with a shared studio in Walkley. In a public statement on the \u2018Open Up Sheffield\u2019 website they said: \u201cOpen Up offers a rare chance to explore the creative heart of Sheffield, meeting artists and discovering their work in the spaces where it\u2019s made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studios were spread across the city, with printed guides and maps being provided to help people plan their visits.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Families, students and art enthusiasts attended the event, where they could move between industrial buildings, home studios and shared creative spaces across Sheffield and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The non-profit event has now been running for over 25 years, priding itself on exhibiting art without the cost of a traditional gallery show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival once again highlighted Sheffield\u2019s reputation as a city of makers, while giving the public a rare opportunity to experience the creative process first hand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018Open Up Sheffield\u2019 returned across two weekends in May, giving visitors the chance to step inside artists\u2019 studios and meet the people behind the work.
