Three businesses have gone up in flames after a suspected arson attack in the east of Sheffield.
On Monday 12 May, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue attended a fire at Manor Park Centre in the early hours of the morning.
At 12.07am, the Fire and Rescue team received a call reporting on three commercial buildings that had set alight. South Yorkshire Police also attended the scene at 12.17pm.
Six fire engines and an aerial ladder appliance were deployed to the scene immediately. Four mainline jets and the aerial ladder were used to extinguish the fire.
Internal Communications Officer for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Alfie Robinson said: “They (the crew) left the scene at 2.46am. The fire is believed to have been set deliberately.”
The roof of the building block was completely destroyed, with bricks and other debris visible at the scene. The fire directly impacted three businesses, N&D Salon, Flowers and Gifts 2 Go, and Krown Tanning.
N&D Salon had only been newly open for a couple of days before the fire, as it had recently undertaken new management. Louise Wainwright, a Manor Park local, took it upon herself to set up a GoFundMe page for the new salon, as she believes the Manor Park community can come together to help the businesses rebuild. So far £350 has been raised on the fundraising site, with the total goal being £2000.
Communications Officer for South Yorkshire Police, Steven Ross said: “It is believed that the fire was started intentionally, and officers have launched an arson investigation. Enquiries are ongoing to identify suspects.”
This comes after residents in Sheffield have begun increasingly voicing their concerns about the amount of arson crimes in the county recently.
