Evicted Leadmill start relocation crowdfunder

Former owners of The Leadmill site have launched a Crowdfunder to help find a new venue following last year’s eviction.

The team behind the iconic venue have set a £30,000 target to find a new suitable place to host gigs and shows.

The Leadmill team said in a statement on their website: “We’re working towards securing a new venue – a space where The Leadmill can continue to grow, evolve and bring people together.”

The Crowdfunder comes after The Leadmill Ltd were evicted from the site – 6 Leadmill Road – with the last gig being Miles Kane on June 27, 2025.

The band Wolf Alice expressed their support for The Leadmill at this week’s BRITs saying it was their favourite independent venue to play at.

Bassist Theo Ellis said: “They should be cultural institutions. There are places across Europe that protect these venues because they’re hubs of community and The Leadmill, in Sheffield, was that.”

The group went on to win the Group of the Year award.

The Leadmill brand has been homeless since its eviction using venues across the city such as Foundry, Sidney and Matildas and Steamworks.

The Crowdfunder states: “We lost the building through eviction but we didn’t lose what made it matter.”

The site owned by Dominic Madden and Electric Group won a three year legal dispute with The Leadmill Ltd resulting in its eviction in 2025.

The site has been rebranded Electric Studios Sheffield with refurbishments nearing completion and gigs planned for Spring 2026.

Head of music at Electric Studios Mike Weller said the new venue would host an eclectic programme of music events remaining a cornerstone of the live music scene in Sheffield.

The first event, according to TicketMaster, at the venue is electronic artist, DJ and producer Wilkinson on Friday 13th March.

According to The Leadmill website, donations will go towards securing a permanent space, building the venue and technical infrastructure, ensuring full accessibility and preserving the Leadmill heritage.

The Leadmill first opened as a music venue in the 1980s and has hosted some of Sheffield’s biggest bands such as Arctic Monkeys and PULP.

The Crowdfunder has already raised £7,000 with 76 days of the appeal remaining.
