A zero-waste shop has merged with a vintage emporium to create a sustainable superstore in Broomhill
Trixie’s Pantry, a zero waste shop that offers pantry essentials and even its own peanut butter, has moved around the corner in Broomhill.
The move from 467 Glossop Road to 199 Whitham Road was largely motivated by the rise in business costs this coming tax year.
The shop-owner, Mr Samuel Ogle-Timson, 26, from Broomhill said: “Everything is going up in the new tax year. Wages are increasing. Our business rates are increasing, electric, WiFi, you name it, there is an additional cost being attached to it.
“If you’re not careful, you end up sinking rather than swimming.”
Trixie’s Pantry, which opened in its old location in April 2024, helps to reduce plastic waste by offering pantry staples and cleaning supplies without single-use packaging.
“For Trixie’s I really liked the ethos of other places like ‘The Bare Alternative’ and realised that we don’t have something like that in Broomhill,” Mr Ogle-Timson said.
“Every community serves itself in Sheffield so having it shouldn’t negatively impact them and hopefully it would positively impact everyone.”
The zero-waste shop occupies the first room of Cool Stuff Vintage, which sells pre-loved items and is owned by Mr Timson’s in-laws Eric and Cristina.
“They’re the ones that have the vision of how it looks, and we build it.”
The new business location has been dubbed by the family as a ‘sustainable superstore’.
Mr Ogle-Timson said: “I was spreading myself a little bit too thin.
“I’ve been working at Trixie’s, trying to source for here, trying to work here as well.
“The environment is looking a bit more difficult for small businesses in the coming months, so we’re wanting to make sure that we’re ahead of that as such, so that we’re not in trouble.”
The shop’s new location on Whitham road has already increased sales.
“We’ve only been here for just over a week now but we’ve had several people come in and go ‘Oh it’s great that we’ve finally got a shop like this in Broomhill, the closest one’s in Crookes’.”
“It doesn’t matter how illogical it is, if someone believes that you’re much closer, then you’re much closer.”
“It is nice to see that we’ve had all of the regulars come into the new place, and we have had quite a few new faces coming in to buy little bits and pieces.”
