The Sheffield university netball club (SUNC) 4s won against Hallam’s netball team during varsity.
During EIS Day (English Institute of Sport), the SUNC 4’s won their varsity match against Sheffield Hallam University.
It was a close match, with Hallam University at first leading the University of Sheffield by 6 points and at many points having more points than them.
However, SUNC 4s won their match by 4 points, with the final scores being 31- 27 to University of Sheffield.
Shef Live got an interview with Mori Asalou, who has been the player’s player for the SUNC 4’s 2 times this netball season, and scored 20 of the 31 goals of the match.
The player’s player is an award given to the best player of the match.
When asked about the match, Miss Asalou said: “The match was extremely intense, everyone gave it their all and definitely fought till the last second.
“The best part of the match was 100% towards the final minutes of the match as going into the 4th quarter we were nil for nil and we widened the gap enough to win the match.
“The celebration at the end was something I’ll remember for a lifetime.”
Throughout the match, Miss Asalou got subbed in twice, once at the start and second during the third quarter of the match.
“In those moments I felt quite nervous as I’d seen how good the defence was from the opposite team.
“I just remembered what my coach had told me to do and tried to execute it to the best of my abilities.”
The energy at the match was unmatched because the audience was loud and supportive, with many audience members making signs in support of both universities.
When asked about her plans for next year, Miss Asalou seemed hopeful for the future.
She said, “I hope to retrial again for UNC, hopefully I’ll be able to improve my shooting accuracy and skills as well as play in more varsity’s to come.”
The netball matches happened the whole day, all teams from SUNC 9 to SUNC 1 played and 6 teams beat Hallam University.
The University of Sheffield won varsity by 68 wins to 29 wins to Hallam, which made it their 12th win in a row.
