Large crowds congregated in Crookes this week as the New Urban Pitta officially opened to customers after a long wait.
From 12pm on 1 May, queues stretched far down the Crookes road throughout the day, with many students and local residents eager to indulge in the highly discounted opening-day deals.
The one time offers included pittas with any filling from £1.99 and salad bowls for £2.99.
The opening-day promotion was also linked to a charitable cause, with the restaurant confirming online that proceeds would be donated to Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital, adding a real sense of community to the launch.
Urban Pitta is a local Sheffield-based company which now three restaurants scattered around Sheffield and specialises in fresh Mediterranean food, including stone-baked pittas and customisable salad bowls with options like chicken, steak and halloumi, alongside gluten-free choices.
Ruby Warren, a student at the University of Sheffield (UOS), heaped praise on the quality of food.
She said: “The food is delicious, and rather healthy.”
Ahead of the opening, Urban Pitta thanked customers for their patience, saying: “We can’t thank you enough for your patience whilst our contractors have been working on the building. We know it’s been a long wait, and we’re so grateful you’ve stuck with us. Your support means the world.”
UOS student Alfie Broughall welcomed the arrival of the new venue in Crookes.
“It’s brilliant to have an Urban Pitta in Crookesmore,” he said, “It’s good to have a nice reputable, local restaurant amongst the student area.”
He added: “The opening day deals are so good, I can’t believe that I’m getting a meal for £1.99.”
Local resident Simon, 53, Crookes, spoke highly of the speed of the food mixed with the high quality.
He said:“Its nice that the food is such good quality, but I love the fast food aspect of the meal.”
With long queues, good food and all proceeds going to charity, the opening of Urban Pitta in Crookes was a major success, and has became a welcomed addition to the area, with many expecting it to become a hotspot for evening meals or quick bites.
