Head coach Andy Gilligan said: “I’m very proud, really really proud of them, they were up against an academy side who train three days a week.”

In attendance was Sheffield United Women’s manager Jonathan Morgan, likely to observe first team players Liv Edwards and Grace Foy who both made appearances in the cup fixture.

United’s first team currently compete in the FA Women’s Super League 2, the second tier of Women’s football. This is a stark contrast to Wednesday who currently compete in the sixth tier of the football pyramid.
