Sheffield is set to receive just over £1m from Sheffield Hallam University as part of an initiative to increase physical activity in Sheffield.
Due to it’s partnership with the National Centre for Exercise Medicine (NCSEM), Sheffield Hallam University has been allocated funding by Sport England as a part of it’s Place Expansion programme from April 2026 to March 2028.
As a part of this initiative Sheffield’s Move More programme will be expanded to meet increasing demand.
Move More is a physical activity strategy aimed at increasing physical activity in Sheffield through long term systematic change rather than short term intervention.
First launched in 2015, it’s most recent strategies were developed by members of NCSEM, Sheffield Hallam University, Yorkshire Sport Foundation and the NIHR School for Public Health Research.
A recent proposal has suggested Sheffield City council enter a grant agreement with Sheffield Hallam University, recieving over £1 million in order to implement two work programmes.
As a part of these programmes Sheffield City Council take will target five priority areas, Firth Park, Woodthorpe, Arbourthorne, Batemoor and Jordanthorne to increase staffing capacity and direct investment in community services. they will also aim to
